Discover St. Lucia’s rich past and vibrant present at Greenwood Terrace, a multi-sensory cultural experience. Comprised of tropical gardens, a culinary facility and a small museum, Greenwood Terrace permits visitors to see, smell and taste the best of the island. A guide will introduce you to the Greenwood Terrace gardens (complete with fruit trees and flowering vegetation) and the medicinal garden, where herbs are cultivated for their healing properties. You will learn how those herbs were used, along with uses for coconut oil and bay rum (from the bay leaf). During your visit, see the old “platene” that was used to make sugar and farine (derived from cassava), and view a traditional chicken coop, outdoor “oven” and a clay oven used to bake bread. Additional historic artifacts at Greenwood Terrace include Creole headwear and clothing that represent the Amerindian, European and African influences on the island’s culture. Prior to leaving, you will also be treated to samples of local fruits, island delicacies, rums and more.
